Case Numbers Manipulated?

Are Coronavirus / COVID-19 Case Numbers Being Manipulated?

Incomplete reporting from some Florida laboratories resulted in errors on the state’s report on virus positivity rates, according to a Fox 35 News report.

“Countless labs have reported a 100 percent positivity rate, which means every single person tested was positive,” Fox 35 News reported Tuesday. “Other labs had very high positivity rates.”

Orlando Health, for example, reported a 98 percent positivity rate. Lee Memorial Hospital Lab, PanCare of Florida, Inc and Advance Medical of Naples all reported 100 percent positivity rates; no negative results were included.

That rate implies every person tested had a positive result.

The Florida Department of Health confirmed to Fox 35 News on Tuesday that though private and public laboratories are required to immediately report both positive and negative cases, “some have not.”

“Specifically, they said that some smaller, private labs were not reporting negative test result data to the state,” Fox 35 News reported.

INSPQ data: A 94% drop in active COVID-19 cases

At the end of last week, the Institut national de santé publique du Québec (INSPQ) dramatically revised its data regarding the extent of COVID-19 in Quebec.
Yet these substantial changes attracted very little attention. In this INSPQ update, the percentage of active cases suddenly dropped from 44.4% to 6.1%, recovered cases jumped from 45.6% to 87.7%, and deaths fell from 10% to 6%.

The Florida Department of Health confirmed to Fox 35 News on Tuesday that though private and public laboratories are required to immediately report both positive and negative cases, “some have not.” “Specifically, they said that some smaller, private labs were not reporting negative test result data to the state,” Fox 35 News reported.

Drop in Ontario cases due to Toronto data error, had reported cases twice

According to CP24, the “drop” in Ontario coronavirus cases actually isn’t a drop, but rather a data correction. Toronto Public Health had apparently been recording cases twice.

Coronavirus: Tests ‘could be picking up dead virus’

The main test used to diagnose coronavirus is so sensitive it could be picking up fragments of dead virus from old infections, scientists say.

Most people are infectious only for about a week, but could test positive weeks afterwards.

Researchers say this could be leading to an over-estimate of the current scale of the pandemic.

System Glitch Leads to Backlog of 300,000 Covid Tests in California

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (CN) — Acknowledging the state’s overburdened reporting system failed county health departments for weeks, California officials on Friday said despite a backlog of as many as 350,000 coronavirus tests they remain confident in the state’s broader data and that the glitch can be quickly fixed.

“Our data system failed and that failure led to inaccurate case numbers and case positivity rates,” said California Health and Human Services chief Mark Ghaly.

The state’s infectious disease database backed up late last month, Ghaly said, and for a five-day stretch a large commercial lab was unable to log test results. Ghaly said he and Governor Gavin Newsom became aware of the backlog late Monday, hours after the governor touted statewide decreases in hospitalizations and new cases.
